In 1983, to celebrate 100 years since the first European settlers cut their way into the forests of the Kongwak district in South Gippsland, the Kongwak Hall Committee published Kongwak the Valley of Peace 1883-1983.
 
In 2008, with few copies of Joseph White's original book left, and with the centenary of the school and hall already 10 years past, it was time for another look at Kongwak's rich history: its pioneer men and women, its service in three wars, its active community service organizations, school, church and wonderful natural resources.
